I loved this game in my childhood, even if I never was able to finish it.
With the gog version I'm not even able to get over the first quest, when I fight back the smuggler in the first mission I get a success transmission.
But a few days later I receive the exact same quest again ... and again ... very frustraiting.

All I could find about that problem was a years old comment on YouTube with no answers.
Anybody else having similar problems?

1st mission? I seem to recall the smuggler as later on.

In any case, I assume this is the one where you have to block an "Unknown" ship from approaching right?

The smuggler isn't the first mission, or at least it's definitely not supposed to be. The smuggler mission only starts a few days after you've made captain, in my experience.

The first mission was to rescue a trader ship from pirates for me. It was easy enough, although it can indeed repeat a few times while you're lieutenant.

well, I used the cheat too
I'll try reloading the save game and report back.

At first that didn't work, then I started a new game and waited til the first mission started.
Applying a cheat after that seems to work, at least if you save and reload right after.
I got the smuggler mission at Captain level and one or two other missions afterwards and then there was the smuggler again, but saving reloading worked this time.
