Just purchased imperialism II. I am reading that lowering the screen resolution will allow the game to run but the lowest I can set my resolution to is 1024 x 768. I am running windows 8.

My problem is that when I launch the game it only shows half the screen and the other half is covered in black.

Is there a way around this or am i completely screwed?

I ran the troubleshooter and am able to get it to show fully but it is still not taking up the whole screen and is very small. Probably the best I can do?

OK for me on W 8.1 I am not using any compatibility mode, I just activated run as administrator.

But otherwise:

What is HW, like monitor, graphic-card and similar?

Another thing:

Did you install directx 9c? THAT IS NO JOKE.

Some games need some dll´s from the old directx to run correctly!!!! And they are not included in the newer version. No it shall not interfere with the newer version.
