Hi,

i recently played imp I with two friends of mine. An old version though, not the one from gog. We encountered a whole lot of bugs, which made the game unplayable at around 1830.

Anyone play this game in multiplayer and doesnt encounter any bugs/can play a game to the end? if so what setup do you have? (Game version, windows version etc.?)
bump
We have played several games years ago and we got very annoyed when imperialism crashed around the year 1860. We did some research and it turned out that problems can be mitigated following few simple steps:

1. The host should always terminate the round as first player.

2. Every player should backup his save games regularly (for example every two years)
=> why? Well, there is a bug that might result if a province get attacked (I think due to a problem in fighting algorithm). So, if the problem occurs, restart the game with one of the save games and then ensure that you avoid any "wars" (if you declared war and the game crashed, it is quite easy - if computer declares war, you could try to prevent him from attacking a specific province or you could declare war to another nation or any action that changes the game progress).

3. If you restore a multiplayer code, ensure that the host does not continue the game/round before everyone has joined. You can check if everyone has successfully joined by sending "confirmation messages" to each other.

As an alternative, you could use an additional computer for a "backup nation" that is managed by whoever has concluded the round first and will be given to the unfortunate player who was kicked out by technicial issues (in case there are any).
How exactly did the bugs look like? I strongely recommend to use the most recent version of Imperialism or at least V1.1, furthermore you should follow my guidelines (host closes every round before the players; save often etc.).

It is really a pity that there are so many problems with multiplayer. It is no fun if you reach year 1860 having a bug preventing you from continuing the game.

FIrst of all: woooohooo i really got an answer!!! Cool thx alot already for coming back to my problem.
Unfortunately i thought my post never will get an answer, so i didnt looked after it for a long time (obviously).
We played with version 1.1 i think.

Well it is the bug, you wrote about in your post before. Where an other nation declares war and i (or my friends) werent able to retaliate when they steal a province, because he is at war with "us" but "we" not with him...

So you say, you cant get rid of the bug competly? Thats sad.
Well, so if you build to less army to defend your self and could get helped by your friends that doesnt help obviously, the game is ruined?! Does the bug appear everytime ai declares war on you?

Or can i take provinces if i declare war myself to him? Its quite a time since we played, and im not sure we even tried that and it didnt worked.

Hope you re going to come back to this thread some time.

We didnt tried that the host finishes first every time though. Maybe that could help?
