Anyone having purchased it already? How stable does it run under modern OS's, especially W7? My old CD-Version quite often crashes randomly ("Application has to be closed because of an error") when trying to run it in a modern environment. Of course, I don't expect this to be the case with a DOS-Box relying GOG version, but anyway...

I'll have to play a full game yet. In order not to crash, force the screenresolution to 640*480 and add it to the DEP-exception list (W7->System->Advanced->Performance->DEP)

GOG has fixed the Zoom Out Map Crash, problem, where if you zoomed out the main playing area to get a world view map, the game crashed. This has happened with every Windows OS since Win 98.
The only setting I had to change in the GOG version was to mark it to start in 640 by 480 mode in the Properties section.. It will start anyway but resized the desktop in doing so. Selecting the 640 mode avoids this.
This is on XP,but Imperalism has a lot of the same problems mentioned here on XP..and i fact with every post Win 98 system.

I also had to add it to the DEP exceptions for it to start in W7. It got to the newspaper when I started a game and when I closed it it would CTD.

Unfortunately, game is Windows based so no DOS-Box and I tried everything mentioned on the forum and web to get it to work on Win7 64 bit (deactivated DEP, tried slowdown hack, Windows 95 and 98 compatibility, selecting 640x480 mode) and no matter what I do game crashes very quickly

Edit: The above is true for My Laptop. Game works without problems when added to the DEP exceptions on My Desktop Win7 64 bit. It seems there may be incompatibility with My Laptop's Intel CPU due to its reliance to CPU Power. It is a pity because 640x480 resolution is more ideal for my laptop screen, but at least I can play it on My Desktop.

I have imperialism and Win 7. Its going smoothly till i start game, entered in game and when i send my engineer to build railroad it crashed.... Why imperialism... Why?!

When i start the game for first time it asked me to force 640 screen resolution, but i unchecked it - i have bad experience in trying to run in 640 on my monitor (didnt go back to normal screen resolution = cash thrown away for fixing problem, so i dont want to risk).

Is there possibility to run resolution 640 as windowed mode?

Changing screen resolution to 640 and adding it to the DEP helped im my case - Win7.

Adding Imperialism II to DEP helped the game to run. However, i'm trying to get it to run in a Window using DXWnd, but that does not seem to be working. It sill goes full screen and shrinks my task bar to one icon wide. (I have it on the left side of the screen).

I'm on Win7 x64.

Wow guys, I have never had a single problem with it (running x64 of course). Just did a vanilla install, no additional tweaking.

I've been having tons of problems with the last 3 DOS games I've purchased from GOG. Most if not all of these games are considered abandonware games from somewhere in the world. I'm better off d/l'ing them free just to see if they will run on a Win 7 64bit rig. This really blows.

Update: I downloaded an abandonware Imperialism #1, and it works superb! No crashes, and no DOS box needed. Imagine that. You unRAR it, then run the .executable file and it's fine. I did change the executable to compatibility mode for Windows 95.
