I have the same system. A gaming computer. The game played fine for 12 hours and now just keeps crashing.
Hello !! After a while I also tried to play Imperalism 1. Game starts. But once I start a new game or load a saved game, Imp 1 crashes to desktop after a few seconds. I have a win10 64bit laptop. I already followed all general recommendations (e.g. reinstalling DirectX components etc). from the help section. But no success: Imp 1 still crahes. Dear GOG team, please have a look on this issue. Thank you !!
I had the same problem with both Imperialism games.

The solution for me on Win 11 was to turn off DEP (Data Execution Prevention) in System Settings > Performance.

My previous solution was to run these games on Linux with the "wine" tool, that works too.
Interestingly, on Win11 only the DEP turned off solved the problem, no compatibility option had any impact on the issue.

Hello tadee84 !! Thanks for your advice !! I changed the DEP setting as recommended and it worked !! Imperalism 1 runs again. :-) My previous DEP setting with an "exemption" for Imperalism 1 obviously was not sufficient. :-( But I still have the "no music bug". :-( I wiill check the forum, if someone has a working advice for the issue that the music doesn't play. Cheers !!
I have a Win11 machine with integrated graphics that can run Imp1 just fine (my kids PC, not as beefy as mine).

My Win11 laptop with a secondary 4090 video card cannot -- crash to desktop once a new game has been started ~ 10 seconds in (sometimes I can close the newspaper).

I have tried various compatibility settings. (no change)

I forced Imperialism.exe to use the integrated graphics card. (no change)

I have tried disabling DEP for Imperialism.exe. (no change)

I have tried running Imperialism.exe with wine through Ubuntu22.04 WSL2. (gives an immediate error: "wine: Unhandled illegal instruction at address 0063E000 (thread 0024)" )

...running out of ideas on getting Imp1 to work...

I'm glad it worked. I could finish a game with each game (in the case of Imp1, still without music).
