Quick question: I am wondering about purchasing Track IR 5. Is that supported with the GOG version of IL2?
I see that the game is mentioned on track irs compability page, so high hopes!

It works perfectly with Track IR 4... I don't see why it wouldn't work with 5.

Free track is a wonderful program, I have a 3 point IR LED set up and after a little adjustment, it feel very natural. Glad I discovered it before plonking down a few hundred pounds to buy glorified webcam.

Just remeber you dont need a 3 point clip in il-2, as 6 dof is not supported other than trough mods and cant be used online. Something I learned AFTER using a damn long time making a 3 point clip...
Just buy a 5 pack of 5mm IR LEDs from dealextreme, solder it to some wire and a AA battery (no need for resistors), stick it on a cap or a microphone boom and your golden:) IR LEDs and freetrack works with the integrated webcam on my dell xps m1330 after a few setting tweaks without any filter removal, so overall my headtracking setup cost me like 1.5$ :D Best investment I ever made.

Thanks for your answers. :) Seems that head tracking is supported by the GOG version of IL-2, so im going to go ahead and buy the game here!

Bought the game from gog, and TrackIR5 works like a charm! :D

It does indeed support TrackIR5.
However!
The original IL2 does only support 2 degrees of freedom(Horizontal & Vertical rotation.)
The Unified Installer will make IL2 support the full 6 degrees of freedom. In addition
the game will be greatly enhanced both visually and audially along with allowing many,
many more planes to be flown. Its really a MUST download.
