Newbie Here. Have a few ?s. Installed IL-2 1946 w/patch. Ran w/ no issues, other than a better full screen mode for wide screens (have seen postings) but help is in need regarding of what to do w/ the bin files to add. They want to open up as an VLC (orange cone) video file. Have been all over from d.loading various pgrms (DAEMON, Magic ISO) to burning file(s) to disc via Roxio/Nero 12, using WinZip/WinRar. Nothing is working to install/upgrade the extra files. I'm at a loss of what to do, other than to give to whole game the dump & loss on my part & stick w/ FSX, etc...

System: Win 7/64bit. File: 2.0.0.6, which I believe is version 4.10. Hope someone out there can offer help.

Welcome to GOG!

Actually the GOG version of IL-2 is 4.11.1m (they do offer a downgrade to 4.10 if there are specific mods you want to play which have not yet updated).

However, I believe the bin files you refer to have already been installed. If you successfully ran the GOG installer and ran the game, then the data from the bin files has already been extracted and installed correctly. The .exe opens the bins and installs them automatically creating your full IL-2 install. There should be nothing more you need to do to have the base IL-2 working. You can back up the files (exe and bins) locally if you want to save them and install them on some other system at a later date.

Thanks for your quick reply. I was wondering if this was true as well, as long as the files are inside that same folder as the .exe. Will have to reinstall & see if the complete game (5 in 1) installs.
Yes sir there are 4 files that will download.
#1 is set up file 3.62MB
#2 BIN file 1.95GB
#3 BIN file 1.95GB
#4 BIN file 465MB
Double clicking #1 will initiate installation of ALL 4 FILES to anywhere (for me anyway) other than 'Program Files'
I use C:\ my game blah blah\ blah as there's less problems .

~S~

Okay, now it seems there are 4BIN files and 1 .exe.
