I just downloaded this game, but I don't know how to install the game with the files I downloaded :S

You need to doubleclick the setup_il-2_sturmovik_1946_2.0.0.6.exe, not those -1,-2,-3,-4 files with the VLC player icon, run the patch after the normal setup is finished.
It may help to uncheck the hide extensions of known filetypes option in the explorer properties or something like that so it displays the file extensions which MS disabled by default for some idiotic reason.

Thank you, I will try this.

Also, I have bought this year a joystick to play Red Beron1 and RB3D, but that didn't worked very well. It's a Thrustmaster T16000m: http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/t16000m. Do you think this is a good joystick?

I have the same joystick and I think it is the best joystick there is in its pricerange and will last me a very long time (I hope).
The problem with Red Baron 1 may be that you need to calibrate it from within the options menu in the game which old DOS games often require. It is also possible that you may need to edit the Dosbox .conf file to this:

[joystick]

joysticktype=auto
timed=false
autofire=false
swap34=true
buttonwrap=false

I don't know about Red Baron 3D but it is possible that it is also a calibration problem, I know that after I start up my computer and run IL-2 1946 for example, I first need to make a full deflection of all axis so Windows knows the limits, otherwise the smallest deflection will result in maximum output.
Ok, so the game and the patch are installed, and I calibrated my joystick in the setup menu of the game. The I lauched the game, but when I got into the game-menu I could not move my mouse.

-edit-

I alt-tabbed and when I got back in the mnu my mouse worked.

So what you are saying is that everything you switch from playing with Il-2 1964 to RB3D and backwards, you need to recalibrate the joystick?

And I'm glad to hear you have the same stick as mine :D

-Another edit-

What's best, using OpenGL or DirectX drivers?

No, only once after booting up Windows.

Yeah, the T16000.m is grate, you will love it too especially with IL-1946 as I don't know another sim that requires as much precision as this.
It only has that silly green light, but when I'm honest I don't even notice it. =P

Thanks for your help!

I'm busy now with setting the controls for my joystick, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I'm following this site: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=261

I wonder if you could show a printscreen of your joystick-setup? Because it's the same joystick I can compare it. It's kind of the first time I actually use a joystick in a flightsim, so all is new for me.

Ever since I got the T16000.m I'm using the default joystick settings in IL-2 1946.
You may wish to add a little deadzone (deadband) for the elevator, aileron and rudder.
Those M4Today settings may help for certain aircraft but I didn't find much need for it so far.

By the way what version does it say when you start IL-2, V 4.12.1m?

Thanks for the screens. And yes, it says V 4.12.1m indeed.

Ok, that is the latest version.
I wasn't sure if the patch was the degredation patch.

I've watched some of the tutorials, but I've yet to fly. Any recommendations for beginnermissions?

And what is the difference between the OpenGl and DirectX drivers?

M4Today has a tutorial campaign that people speak highly of (haven't played it myself), so maybe give that a try.
I just learned it the hard way. =)

Use OpenGL as the game is designed around that, DirectX here is just a wrapper in case OpenGL gives to much problems but it runs slower and has less features.
There are several sources on how to edit the conf.ini and get the most out of IL-2 1946, just google for them, but be warned though with all bells and whistles turned on IL-2 1946 is a very demanding game.

Ok thanks.

I 'll just try this game out, and later I 'll delve deeper in what's possible in this game.

I'm going to start with the original Russian Sturmovik campaign, on a difficulty that's between Easy and Normal. Wish me luck :P

Allright, I started the engine and wanted to lift of....little did I know that there was a whole row of planes ahead of me who were also waiting for liftoff..... are there any camera options to see your surroundings while you are taxiing or flying?

Yes, F2 should do this nicely.
Good luck and don't forget to trim your aircraft. =)

Could you describe what problems you were having with the joystick and Red Baron?

EDIT: If Strijkbout hasn't solved your problems with that already of course :)
