It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Whatever I try, the game doesn't want to start at all. The computer is doing something for a few seconds and then nothing. I have tried everthing the Internet has suggested so far: compatibility mode, adjustments to the conf.ini file etc.

My PC:

Windows 10, Nvidia GTX 970, 16:10 monitor (1680x1050)

I also own the Steam version, and it used to work. I am not sure though if that was with Windows 8.1 or already Windows 10. I bought the GOG version, because I thought one of the Steam updates broke the game. That doesn't seem to be the case.

The Windows event viewer is suggesting the failure happens in the module: "jvm.dll". So maybe a Java problem?Because it used to work, I have the feeling the problem is either a Windows 10 update, a graphics card driver update or something with Java.

Nvidia's tool "GeForce Experience" can cause such crashes; If it's on your machine, I'd uninstall it. It's a shot in the dark, but easy to test and it might solve your issue.
Thank you for the answer. That is one of the things I had already tried, but without success. I did install GeForce Experience a while back, so I had really hoped removing it would solve the problem.
