It looks like the installer is now 4.11.1m - however, many mods (such as DBW) require 4.10. Is there any way to download either the original, non-patched version of 1946, or better yet, version 4.10?

Don't use the universal update after you download everything and it should still be 4.10 when it downloads.

The HSFX mod is for 4.11.1, and there is a ModAct 4.0 from SAS for 4.11.1.
If you're for improved engine and weapons sounds, the ModAct is good for that and can be used online. It's only 50MB in size.

I looks like the main installer is now 4.11.1 - I tried running just the installer, and even deleted the update exe from the download directory (just in case the installer was automatically calling it), and still wound up with 4.11.1.

I've installed HSFX - which is awesome - but wanted to give UP / DBW a try... there are a few effects that still require 4.10.. Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to be able to grab the older version (or even a vanilla version of 1946 that I could patch up to 4.10).

You'll have to purchase it from Amazon or e-bay then.

That sucks that one is not given the option of patching the game themselves to whatever version one chooses.
When I first bought it from GOG it was ver. 4.09m. Now it's been patched 5 times by GOG. Well 4 if one skips the 'Hotfix' patch. Ver. 4.11.1 has the Hotfix in it.

I'm going to have to stick a vanilla 4.10 on a flash drive.
But I ramble.

I would love to do the DBW but it took me a day just to get the HSFX downloaded. I have no patience. :)

Thank you GOG. A lot of the good mods use the 4.10 version of the game. And with the former 4.11.1 download it was impossible to use those mods. So now we can mod till our hearts are content..

Given some time, the mods will get updated to work with 4.11. Unless they've been abandoned or something like that.
