It's probably worth pointing out (since it's not made clear anywhere on the game's GOG page) that "1946" is a compilation which includes all previous IL-2 content — boxed games, add-on packs, the works. See the game's Wikipedia page for details:

At any rate, this is the game that finally made me sign up for GOG. More AAA combat sims, please! :) And to think I was looking at 1946 on a bargain pyramid in a supermarket at 10€ just today…
I bought and played the IL-2 series up to the Ace Expansion Pack, but then I moved countries and for a long time did not have a gaming-capable PC. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
I'd like to see LOMAC on here too, even if we won't get the FC expansion.
Yeah, it's a sad fact that pretty much all the top tier combat sims are "good old games" by now. There hasn't been any activity in the genre for ages. Well… with the exception of Black Shark, of course!

....

It doesn't seem to have the add-on, "Battle Over Europe". When I try to install it from the disk the new missions and planes don't show up. Anyone know how to make it work?

Does it really contain every last bit of IL-2 content?
I remember reading way back that when Pacific Fighters came out, it contained everything from the very first IL-2 except for the original Single-Player Campaigns and the assorted missions that were included in the box, replacing them with dynamic campaigns instead.
Did they stick the original campaigns back in specifically for the 1946 pack, or have they been lost to the mists of time?
It's not super important, as I've just bought the 1946 pack from GOG, and I have a boxed copy of the very first IL-2 title on my shelf, I'm just curious.
The battle of europe game is A new game they are working on. I know they are making a game for the 360 that will be more acardeish and a new flight sim that will be PC. The 4.09 beat patch holds 2 new maps that use the new game eng. as for the one Tuold is asking for I think that is an add-on you can get for the game. Go to Simhq for all the links you can find. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/86/1/IL_2_Series_Forgotten_Battles_.html
the 4.09 beta patch go here.

All OFFICIAL content, not the third party expansion packs....

There are at least two other expansions to IL2 Forgotten Battles that I know of :
1/ "Rebirth of the Reich" by Tri Synergy
2/ "IL2 Sturmovik: Operation Barbarossa" by Matrix games (230 Luftwaffe missions)
As far as I know, though these are incompatible with "1946".

Seriously, didn't this come out in 2006?
How is this game old?
Even in dog years, it's not.

IL-2 1946 did come out in 2006/7, the original game dates, I think, from 2001. I haven't played a WWII flight sim in a few years and felt the urge, found this and I'm still waiting for the download to finish.......
Download finished! All I have to do now is learn to fly without stalling and spinning in.

Well, correct me if I am wrong, but I have heard that Il-2 is pretty much considared to be *the* flight sim, excluding modern craft.
If so, just keep playing this! There are like, a gazillion games in there for the $5 I paid!

Same here. I was like "ohmigosh, a version of Il-2 46 that won't require me to screw around with masking my virtual CD drives for ten bucks? GIMME!". >:D
