I can't seem to solve the horrible image tearing and game stuttering and even micro pausing. I've tried changing rendering modes, scaling modes, double buffering, enabled Fast V-Sync in NVIDIA Control Panel, nothing helps.

What else can I try? I love this game, but I can't play it like this :(

I'm running the game at 800x600 on Windows 10 64bit Redstone, Core i7 5820K, 32GB RAM and GTX 980 with ForceWare 376.33 on ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor.

I face the same issue, and some tweaking can help to have some improvement.

1. dosbox tweaking. Go to game installation directory and find dosbox_igni.conf (make a backup copy just for the case something goes wrong)
Open it with text editor (for me the only way to get it displayed the right way is FAR commander) and find the line:
memsize=
For me it was 16. So set it to something your machine can deliver (e.g. memsize=512).

2. Launch dosbox config and choose some accelerated renderer like Direct3D or Opengl, depends what runs better on your system. My dated GeForce 105M runs better in OpenGL, for instance.
I suppose no scaling would be running faster.

These 2 steps wont bring you 100 fps but you will have it running much smoother.

Still can't solve the image tearing for some bizarre reason...

DOSBox SVN is recommended, and include a v-sync option (and you can also cap frame rate)

It seems there are several SVN builds, which one would you recommend?

Even though it's still not listed in the DOSBox Wiki (because it is closed), my vanilla DOSBox SVN and ECE build run the game smoothly in 800x600 on my i7-3630QM: http://blog.yesterplay80.net/dosbox-ece-en/

I've uploaded a .conf you can try, you shouldn't have any problems as long as you don't use opengl or openglnb as video output.

I tried both the custom build as well as the custom conf (with and without custom build), but still the same, about 20 fps... :-/

I've got to get to know the inner workings of DOSBox better, I usually know what I'm doing very well in PC graphics but DOSBox is completely new to me.
