I've made an alternative .conf for people that have performance issues with this game.
Note that I've set the fullscreen resolution to 1280x720, so if you have a screen with another aspect ratio than 16:9 you should enter another resolution (e.g. 1280x800 if you have a 16:10 monitor) but don't go all crazy selecting HD or 4k resolution because then you'll most probably run into performance issues.
With this .conf I can run the game in 800x600 and have perspective poly turned off or your car will randomly explode.

One thing I noted was that I had to recalibrate my controller every time I play, if I didn't do that the game would perform horrendously when you start a race. If anyone has a solution for this that would be welcome.
