Wasn't there an official 3dfx-enabled version of this game? If so it would be great if GOG could add it.

I used to play this game on Win 7 and 8 via a glide wrapper (dgVoodoo if memory serves), but IMO it was an inferior port. Certain effects (subtle water splashes when passing through a puddle and car "leaning" while cornering) were not visible when I played the 3dfx version. Could be a byproduct of using the wrapper, but I still prefer the DOS version.

I have seen that some people have already found the full installation disc in the GOG version. You could use that with the glide wrapper to play the 3dfx version, but I don't know if it will function on Win10.
nglide 1.03 works well under win10 with my non-gog version of the game.

I didn't get it working, first i extracted 3dfx patch to ignition folder and then installed nglider. The game starts and i get to choose language but after that game crashes every time, too bad. Maybe 3dfx version requires windows version of ignition GoG version is dos version.

There are two 3dfx versions. I can post the working one later...

I've compared my old 3DFX installation against the GOG release... turns out there are a few texture files missing as well.

I've uploaded all the files needed to get the 3DFX version to work over at

http://www.tapper-ware.net/data/files/Ignition.zip

Like I said, it's only been tested under Windows10, so any compatibility reports would be great. Maybe GOG can integrate the files into the official release when compatibility has been confirmed for all major Windows versions.

Couldn't get the music to work though, even with winmm DLLs

I don't know whats included in the GoG version but the original Direct3D version works just fine for me using dgvoodoo in Windows 7 (64-bit), you simply have to put the DDraw.dll from dgvoodoo in the game directory and then you should be good to go.

It is also possible to make it run in a window by messing around in the dgVoodoo config a bit, though its a bit quirky since it wasn't meant to work like that (like losing keyboard input when changing window focus).
To do this, just make sure to uncheck everything in the Direct3D tab and set the Antialiasing to "App driven".
Then in the General tab set Appearance to "Windowed" with Unspecified scaling mode and check both "Keep window aspec ratio" and "Capture mouse" in the Miscellanneous section.

Here's what you get with the Direct3D version compared to the 3dfx version (as far as I have noticed, might be other things as well):
- properly synchronized intro (3dfx version goes out of sync with a/v for some reason)
- "this is you"-arrow when starting the race
- "water splash" effect when driving through water
- "blue glitter" effect when respawning after wrecking your car
- collision effect when ramming other cars

However there is also a slight negative that I have noticed and that is that the game won't properly terminate after quitting it.
Meaning the executable is still running after quitting the game and you'll have to kill it manually with the task manager (but I think thats negligible considering the positives).

Is there any advantage to trying this out with dgvoodoo2?
