Pangaea666: Edit: I'm back home so was able to play the game now. Via Friends spell were able to acquire Helm of the Trusted Defender for the Fighter/Thief, and the Fighter->Druid got the Lucky Ssimitar. Hardly great purchases, but it's what we could afford, and it will help, if only slightly so.
Might as well use the lucky scimitar if it's the best your ftr/druid can use. I think the first scimitar I found was the Scimitar +3: Frostbrand in the Wyrm's Tooth Glacier, not exactly near the beginning of the game. Remember your druid can cast star metal cudgel so if you need a +4 weapon, you still have that to fall back on.

Coelocanth: I've played the game so many times that I just use the console now if I don't get a decent weapon drop (there are a couple of decent versions of some of the more obscure weapons that are random drops). So when i get to the point where everyone is kitted out with something decent except (for example) my halberd user, I just console in an appropriate weapon for him and carry on.

Dreamteam67: I would have thought by now someone would have played through with an unarmored group with no weapons at all, just to prove it can be done.
Some monsters require magic weapons to hit so fists won't cut it in this case. Yxonemi requires +2 weapons to hit for example, so how could she be killed if fists do nothing to her?
Gotten to possibly my favourite area in the game, the Severed Hand (it looks gorgeous!), and just fought Kaylessa. I recall this being one of the spots where you get either this or that, so after picking up two fairly lousy items, I checked it out.

Obviously big-time spoilers...

According to that site you're supposed to get, in addition to Boots of Speed, either Kaylessa's Bow OR Kaylessa's Gloves. Both look pretty decent, although I'd prefer the gloves as our two archers already have excellent bows. However, what I ended up with was a useless +15% stealth ring that only rangers can use.

What gives?

The items you get from Kaylessa (other than the machinery part and the boots) are random drops. So you have a chance of getting her ring, her gloves, or her chain (the latter is, IMO, by far the best item).

Okay; so the site was simply not correct/outdated then. Bah. Is it possible with a do-over, or would that mean doing the whole tower again? That ring was completely useless :(

Random drops are determined when you first load an area, so if you have a save just before you entered that floor to battle her, you can reload and try again. Failing that, there's always the console...

*edit* Actually, the random drop may be set before you first talk to her, which would be highly inconvenient. Can't recall now for sure.

Unfortunately the last proper save is before going into the tower at all (or fortunately, perhaps). I've made relatively few saveslot saves this time, and relied on Q a lot. The last quicksave is from before talking to her, but after going down the stairs from the upper levels. Tried that save, but we got the same ring again. Not sure I want to redo the whole tower, so will probably look up the code for that chainmail. Means the fighter will have to let go of a ring of protection +1, but better AC would be an improvement I suppose.

Have you got that code at the ready? Anything else I need to do to enable the cheat console?

I'll feel dirty now, and may need a shower afterwards :D

GETYOURCHEATON:CreateItem("KAYCHAI",1)

I feel dirty now, too. :(

Code is KAYCHAI

lol - Don't feel bad. Honestly, what's the difference between reloading several times to get what you want or using the console? Anyway, there should be nothing special you have to do. Console should be enabled by default. If you have issues, just post back and we can help you get it working.

Thank you. I tried, but apparently GameFAQ is outdated too, sigh. The game kept laughing at me "Nice try, cheater!" :D

Yes, you're right Coelocanth, it shouldn't be a big deal really, but I still feel a bit bad about it.

Btw, I needed to add "Cheats=1" in the .ini file, though I didn't try if it worked without it to be fair.

Not overwhelmed by its power, I must say; 1 better AC in exchange for 1 worse saving throw. This is why I often end up with non-magical armour and rings or other magical items instead, which lowers saving throws. I find it's usually better than slightly better AC, especially as the game goes on and you are faced with more magic casters. The cold resistance can come in handy, though.

Try CHEATERSDOPROSPER instead of GETYOURCHEATON.

The big advantage of the chain is that thieves can still do their thieving in it and mages/bards can cast in it. It's awesome armor for those classes.

Oh, sorry for the confusion there. I first tried CHEATERSDOPROSPER on my own, after finding that GameFAQ site, but that didn't work. GETYOURCHEATON worked :)

Mages, you say? Hadn't thought of that, didn't know it was Elvish chainmail. Would be a very good fit for the Fighter/Mage then. I'll try that :)

Kaylessa's mail is not Elven Chain Mail. It is enhanced chain mail only, and not usable by mages or druids.

It is elven chain. Chainmail which allows casting spells while wearing it. Pure class mages or druids can't wear chain but multiclass mages or bards can cast spells while wearing it.

It is not Elven Chainmail. Elven Chainmail is a distinct class of chainmail made with Mithral links. It has nothing to do with whether multiclass mages or bards can cast spells while wearing it. Kaylessa's chainmail is special, that is all -- it is NOT Elven Chainmail.
Why the hair-splitting? Other than the +1 DEX bonus on Kaylessa's chain, it functions almost identically to the Elven Chainmail of the Hand, which is elven chain. Besides, Kaylessa's an Elf, so it's not too much of a stretch to conclude her chain is elven chain. As far as the game mechanics are concerned it makes no difference.
