Icewind dale 2 crashes right after I select my party at the start up screen. The game loads to 3/4th of the progress bar and then crashes on Windows 7.

I tried everything including changing settings to using the compatibility administrator 32 bit fix detailed in the icewind dale ultimate installation guide and the problem persists....I am not sure what I should do since all the other infinity engine games including icewind dale 1 works just fine. Haven't imported any characters or anything.

The gog version is 2.01 so it's patched I reckon.

My system specs are phenom 2 x2 555, ati 5670, 4gb ram.

Not sure if it will help, but did you install to the default location? If so, install outside Programs or Programs(x86). Something like C:\Games. Run the installer as admin (and the game as well).Set compatibility to WinXP Service Pack 3.

I'm running it on Win7 64 bit and have no issues.
cool...thanks. I did install on to the d drive but will trying doing so as admin. Hope it works.

One other thing to check: run the Config utility (found in the main IWD folder wherever you installed it) and go to the graphics tab. Under 3D Options, make sure you have a check in the 'Use OpenGL 3D Acceleration' box as well as 'Use 32 bit Textures'. Also tick 32 bit textures under the 2D Color Depth section.
I managed to solve my lil' dilemma.

So tried everything including following the steps from the ultimate installation guide but nothing seemed to work. Then I just happened to use a single character to start the game instead of a preset party and it worked perfectly.
