(This is for non-EE IWD+HoW+TotL)

I noticed that items that add +1 STR if given to a warrior with 18/XX percentile strength, don't change it to 19, but instead move it up one percentile "bracket". So 18/27 for example becomes 18/51 while 18/54 becomes 18/76...

I was wondering what would happen if you give such an item to a non-Warrior class with 18STR? Does it change to 19, or does it move into the first percentile bracket (18/01)?

Can't swear since I haven't played IWD for a decade or so, but I think non-warriors don't have percentile strength at all. Therefore, I'd expect them to jump to 19.

Warriors get a very bad deal then...

When I have the time I'll check with an editor.
In the particular case of IWD, they have allowed non-Fgt/Rng/Pal to have percentile strength for this. I thought I remembered that was the case, but I just tried it now to make sure.

Any "+1 to strength" from items or potions will give a character with 18 strength 18/01, anyone with 18/01 to 18/25 will get 18/26, and so on.

This makes items, potions and spells that set strength to 19 (or higher) comparably much more important than in BG/BG2.

Also, it appears that in IWD:EE this is no longer the case: https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/44080/windows-manual-of-gainful-exercise-should-only-raise-strength-statistic-by-one

I just did it by using the cheats in-game to create the items.

Links: In the particular case of IWD,
Thanks for checking.

So basically IWD (non-EE) treats %STR brackets as a separate level (17, then 18, then 18/01-18/50, then 18/51-18/75... etc) and limits non-Warriors to 18 at creation.

All the other games treat 18 as a single level (so 17, 18, 19... etc) with those classes that were warriors at character creation getting an extra bonus as a percentile strength.

I think you made a mistake here though. The first bracket is 18/01-18/50.

Yes, I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that. It's exactly as in the manual, the lower limits of each level are: 18, 18/01,18/51, 18/76, 18/91, 18/00, and then 19.
