I frequently have problems saving the game, especially when I use the quick-save (Q) feature. The save fails and then the game asks if I wish to exit. NO, of course not... I want the game saved!

So, I turn around and do it the slow way and then continue on.

Where did you install your game? If it is in "Program files" you may encounter many problems because it's protected. Try to install in somewhere else and run it as an administrator.

Once you're back in the game, check your saves. It should be there. If in doubt, try quick-saving again and it should run fine. At least that's what happens with me.

I also had a lot of trouble with the same problem. Even though I was a complete amateur, I read ini files and lua files. The final solution was to change the Japanese katakana word "ドキュメント" in OneDrive to the English word "Documents." I made the change in OneDrive settings after logging into the Microsoft website instead of using Explorer. After that, I was able to properly recognize the save location in the game. This solution may be limited to problems in Japanese. What I can say is that it is worth checking whether the name of the document on Explorer and the document on OneDrive is the same.
