Hello everyone!

Is there a story behind the seven eyes spell? I googled it and and I found mostly stuff relating to Dragon's Eye. At the time of this post, the Icewind Dale wiki doesn't have any entry relating to the spell.

Anyhoo, the seven eyes spell is comparable to prismatic wall and prismatic sphere. Not exactly the same, but similar enough to make me wonder why they made a knockoff instead of including the original spell.

I have an idea for an all new spell. It's called missile of magic. It does a 1d4 + 2 damage for each caster level.
I don't know what you mean by "a story", but IWD, like all of the I.E. games are customised D&D fare. Seven Eyes is a customised variant of the D&D Prismatic Eye. From the spell compendium:

"You create a visible orb that can produce ray effects duplicating the beams of a prismatic spray spell
...
A target struck by a ray suffers the effect of one beam of a prismatic spray spell (roll 1d8 to determine the effect, rerolling any result of 8), except that the save DC (if applicable) is 19. After a particular color of ray has been used, it is no longer available to the eye, and die rolls that indicate the same color are rerolled. Once all seven rays have been fired, the eye remains until the spell's duration expires."
I am not aware of any implementation of Prismatic Wall in a cRPG that is actually usable without cheats. Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager has one, but the spell is 8th level and the level cap is 15. (The spell seems to *work*, in the sense that it can be cast and will create the wall, but I didn't try walking through it.)

I am not aware of any implementation of Prismatic Sphere in a cRPG that is even functional. DS: WotR has one, but not only is it 9th level (and hence out of reach), but the game crashes if you try to use it (using the cheat that gives you every spell, of course).

I have an idea for a new spell: It's called Missile Sphere. It crashes the game if you try to cast it, and is only learnable with a cheat.

Also, I remember seeing the Seven Eyes spell in an AD&D 2nd edition book; I *think* it was Tome of Magic. (Note: If you are going to check it, make sure you get the 2nd edition one, not the 3.5ed version that is completely different.)
When I was talking about a story, I was thinking that maybe there was a reason for different names or effects.I should`ve clarified that with my original post, I apologize for not doing so.

I didn`t know it was actually based on a spell in the tome of magic. I re-read the description for seven eyes and realized that I didn't really read it properly. What I had in my mind were multi coloured eyes that orbit the caster and if someone gets too close, the effect of the colour would trigger, a la prismatic sphere. They also had similar themes like colours, spheres, and that's it.

Wow, that's actually kind of embarrassing.

Dtgreene, that's actually pretty interesting. I didn't think a prismatic sphere effect would be so difficult to portray in a PC game. I'd also like to steal your missile spell idea.
