Alyosha: I'm not 100% sure what you mean, IwubCheeze, but there's no 'press here to max stats' button in the EE version. I'm pretty sure gnarbrag is just referring to the usual 'reroll-until-you-get-a-good-number' method. The EE versions do show you your total points, which can be useful, but otherwise the system is the same as the originals.

IwubCheeze: If gnarbrag rolled a pally with 99 points, then it's unlikely the EE system is the same as the original. On my several playthroughs of IWD with many more characters created, I have NEVER seen a roll even remotely as high as 99 attribute points.
Oh, I see - I did misunderstand you. Sorry!

I always assumed that it was theoretically possible to get a perfect roll, just ludicrously unlikely. Way more efficient to just cheat if that's what you want! I did just find a Sorcerer's Place thread from 2004 discussing best roles in IWD. One person had a 98 point fighter, but I don't see anything higher than 98. There are few others who say they had points in the 90 range.

Your stats are raised to meet the minimum requirements for a class and since paladins have the highest requirements, they are more likely to have higher stats.

Fighters, Mages, thieves and Priests on the other hand need only a single '9' so they aren't as likely to get high stats.

Picking Halfling or Elf will also give you slightly higher stats because of their racial stat minimums. (only Humans can be paladin so you can't stack the benefit)

(My Paladin has 18/84 Str in case anybody's wondering)
Just a quick update on my progress in the game. I haven't been able to play as much as before, but I am now at Lower Dorn and I am not having too much trouble except some of the sentries there are really tough to kill.

Fixing the stats of my two characters really helped a lot as they are both decent fighters and can take some hits whereas before they would get destroyed so I would have to rely on summons and their spells. I'm in the last chapter so I'm looking forward to finishing the game, then taking a break and going back to the expansion.

I do not have EE only the original. EE came out right after I bought the original off GOG unfortunately or else I might have considered it as it look good graphically and they added quests and features.
