I want to buy the original copy of IWD and the expansion for someone for Christmas, but I was wondering, will these games work on Windows 7? Do I have to run patches, or will it just not work? If someone owns the original copy I would be curious to know how well it works.
Of course it is always nice to just have the box and manual just to see anyway.

I was just playing this on windows 7 64 bit edition home premium and it worked perfectly fine just before I came here.

You're going to need all of the official patches for the original boxed version, and that's even if it runs correctly on Windows 7. I can tell you from experience that the GOG version, which is fully patched, runs flawlessly on Window 7.

So just to clarify, I am talking about the original 2000 release, not the GOG version.

That's what I said... "for the original boxed version" you will need the official patches.
