Thought I'd give ID a try tonight, but when the game starts, the game screen is too low and off to the right, so I'm really not seeing much of it; certainly not enough to try doing anything with the settings. Any helpful hints?

You should post a screenshot, it would help us into helping you ;)
You monitor should have an auto-adjust button. Use it. If not, then change the screen resolution of either your game or your desktop.
I'm going to re-install it and see what happens. If it's still messed up, I'll post a shot.

edit: when the game "runs", it does change my resolution automatically, but as you can see, the game window is way off to the right and too far down

Make sure that the game is not running and go to your IWD installation folder. Run the file 'config.exe'. Go to the 'Graphics' tab and check an appropriate resolution. Check your other preferences while you are there. If you still have problems, check the 'Windowed' box to get the game running in a window. While in-game go to Options > Graphics and check the 'Full Screen' checkbox. It should switch over to full screen, and hopefully be centered.
Ok, when I run windowed, this is what I get. It's playable, just disappointing that I can't expand the box by dragging it like in some other games.

And from windowed, when I switched to full screen from in-game, this was the result.

Use your monitor's auto-adjust button, like previously noted.

Ok, I had to play around with it a bit. Auto adjust didn't fix it, but once I changed the general monitor resolution it's now fixed. Thank you! I've had this monitor seven years and never once touched the menu buttons! I never would have thought of it.
