Targeting my magic spells in IWD is very different from ToEE. In ToEE, I could see the exact area/creatures my spell would effect once I clicked to cast it. In IWD, its pretty much guesswork, crossing my fingers that I hit enemies & avoid allies.

So is IWD2 the same as IWD in that respect? Or did they (hopefully) change it to something more like ToEE?

No its the same as IWD1 and baulders gate. I like to make a party member invisible by either spells or hide in shadows and summon some undead. I walk up with the summons + invisible character to some enemies and the enemies will go strait for the summons since its the only thing they can see. I then have the invisible character run away while every spell caster with an AOE spell casts it where the enemies are bunched up around the skeletons. This makes it very easy to get off AOE spells easily.
