That engine would have been nice for a IWD type spin off with more fighting and less talking. But, DA:O had a good deal of fighting with variety of tactics I thought. Well rounded game so I don't know wtf happened to the rest of that series.
Serpent in the Staglands offers it.

Also the Avernum games.

Elminage Gothic lets you create your party, and is designed in such a way that training new characters mid game is actually practical.

Lords of Xulima also allows you to create most of your party, but you are stuck with a male main character who is not good at combat.

Note that both games have turn based combat. (LoX is like FFX in terms of turn order, while EG is more like classic Wizardry.)
