So I've been playing BG 1 and 2 and they have been working fine. Decided I wanted to try Icewind Dale, got it installed, had to remind myself to not put it in the program files folder and set it to compatibility mode, but then it stopped crashing on startup.
It has a cursor and everything, but when I go to make a character, well, I am flummoxed. All the buttons have no text (image attached) and I am not sure what to do if I can't tell what I am pressing. On top of that, all the text boxes can show text, but the top line is all gibberish. When assigning attribute points, I can't actually see how many points I have, and once I put a point into an attribute, the number vanishes.
I know some people have had trouble entering a name, but my only issue there seems to be an extension of this one; I can't see what I am typing, and once I confirm it, it doesn't display on the character screen, but in-game it appears to be exactly what I typed.
Oh, and I can force my way through blind and actually start the game, at which point things are . . . not awful? Hrothgar's name doesn't display, but his text does. I can move around and use abilities and all that, though menu buttons still don't display any text. And the opening narrative scroll has the same issue as other text boxes, with the first line being a garbled mess.
I could maybe bull through most of the game like this, but it would be unbearably frustrating and not worth the effort. Anyone know anything I can do to fix this?
