So I tried installing Icewind Dale 2 a couple of times now, and it won't even launch. This third time, I noticed the following error come up just as it was finishing installation:

I'm guessing this is why it doesn't launch properly...could someone help explain the cause and solution to this? I'm on Windows 10.

You're probably installing it to a folder where you need admin rights to make changes. Install the game on a different partition than C:

I'm pretty sure I also tried installing it on a D: external drive, but I'll give it a shot! Thanks!

I'm getting a runtime error (at 69:287); when I try to install and then I get runtime error (at 16:321) when I try to uninstall. I can't win. . It's really annoying because I only went to GOG after I couldn't load and run from original discs. It's looking like a waste of money.

Are you installing from the offline installers or from GOG Galaxy?

From GOG Galaxy. Should I be trying from offline somehow? Thanks

You can try the offline installer. Just go on gog.com -> your account -> games -> iwd2 and under "Install game with gog galaxy" there should be "Download offline backup game installers"

I am having the exact same issue.

Alas, I'm getting the same. Installing IWD2 Complete yields a positive install (no error messages) but it doesn't run. Tried several times from "GOG Galaxy" but no change.
Uninstalled & downloaded the stand-alone installer & ran that.
Also getting similar error window ( see attached image file).
but it looks like the ddraw.dll is not loading. {will try to load manually }
Error is :
NOT INSTALLED DUE TO ERRORS Use WineD3D's DDraw Library.

Any ideas?

Well ... I tried to fix my error w/ the BeamDog IWD2 EE patch, but my AV didn't like it and killed it off.
However, I solved the issue by installing Win11 and that played nicely with IWD2.
I installed from the GOG Galaxy and Win11 noticed that I required DirectX to run the game and it installed it for me.

IWD2 is now up and running.
Fix = Windows 11 & a DirectX install.
