It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

After every step there is a delay about half of second or little less, and fade in is so slow you can see every brightness level. Also scrolling is as slow, it's like there are random delays every now and then during any screen change.

In IWD1 it was similar at first, but I enabled OpenGL acceleration and everything went very smooth at any resolution.

But in IWD2 there is no such option in config.exe and putting those options into .ini does not work too.

I have tried every option but it's still unplayable. Well maybe at 800x600 it's possible to play but it's still very clunky and there is no pleasure in that at all, more like a torture.

So I wonder if it's my system or video? I am runnigng winXP pro with sp3 and Radeon HD4800.

Did anyone actually get a smooth scrolling/walking/everything with modern setup?

I don't have a solution for you, but just for information's sake, it seems to run fine on my rig. I only tested for about twenty minutes though (so just wandered around the docks area). I'm running it on Win7 Pro 64 bit with an nvidia GTX 275 card. I enabled the extra resolutions in the config file and am running at the highest resolution offered there (can't recall offhand what that is right now - 1600x1200?) I also turned the graphics option to the highest settings. Tested with the resolution at 800x600 as well. No issues. Playing on a 1920x1200 monitor.
After some googling I opened display properties->settings->advanced->troubleshoot and moved hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left.

Now fade in and walking are pretty smooth but scrolling is still a bit clunky, but it's ok I guess.

I'm playing under Vista, and have the same problem with an ATi 4850, and I used this trick under XP for other games too. But another solution is possible (very useful under Vista / 7, though it may help with XP too, maybe with better performances) :

Download the Microsoft Application compatibility toolkit, and then launch the Compatibility Administrator (in Admin mode). Right-click on New Database in the list, Create New Application Fix, fill the first part, uncheck Windows compatibilities ("None") in the second. Then search for "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" and tick it. Skip the last part, close the window. Then save the database somewhere (preferably at the root of the game's directory), then right-click on the barrel (or go to File [...]) and Install it. You can eventually close everything.

From now on, the game should run with forced DDraw, without changing the general 3D parameters. And from what I saw on Planescape, and now IWD2, everything runs smoothly (a steady 30 fps). I hope it will help ! (it may also help with on-screen artifacts, or others bugs, even more if coupled with D3D Windower).

This worked wonders for me, in case anyone is wondering. No slow down at all. I thought I would mention this since I see this complaint around quite a bit. It's a pretty easy fix too.

Darucas: ... Stuff about Application Compatibility Toolkit
Thanks for this. I also had to add Force 640x480x16 to my fix, but it worked great on a hackintosh running Win7 in Parallels.
WORKS AMAZING HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR LITERALLY 6 HOURS TO GET IWD 2 WORKING SMOOTH HOLY SMOKES I AM RELIEVED THANK GOD

Hello, and I have a question. How do you install the compatibility file, since I don't know how to do it, and since it is not installed, it causes my game to crash.
Here's something to try (mind you I haven't tested this - may or may not work):

Look for the file icewind2.ini in your IWD2 installation folder (make a backup copy of this file before changing anything). With Notepad, make the following changes under the section [Program Options]:

3D Acceleration=1
GLSetup Driver=0

Then under the same section, add the lines:

MiniPort GL=0
Default 3d Display Frequency=70

Basically this is just emulating IWD's config. Save the file.

Edit: Nevermind. Doesn't work.

Worked perfectly for me.

Radeon HD4870, Windows XP SP3 (32-bit.) I was running at about 10-12 fps before, it's a steady, smooth 30 fps now.

Thanks.
