I get 'this program is not responding', it looks like the window frame is attempted to be generated but that's it. Tried various compatibility modes, tried run as administrator, did a bunch of googling, no luck. I have a nvidia GTX 980 i think.

Key is to use openGL, can run in a window at high resolution. Disable 'reduced color mode' in the shortcut properties in windows, set 'run this program in compatibility mode for' to Windows XP SP3.
