I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. As soon as I leave the starting tavern my characters are teleported into another tavern. Talking to the people in this tavern one of them asks the party if we are the heroes of Icewind Dale. which makes me think I've been teleported into the expansion, though I have no idea why. When I leave the tavern/inn I've been teleported to I am immediately teleported back into the tavern I just left. I did mod the game but I didn't do anything to make the expansions accessible early.

Has anyone else experiened this? And ideas on a fix?

Sounds like a mod conflict to me. Remove the mods and start a new game. If it still happens you may need to uninstall and reinstall the game cleanly.
