I just started playing Icewind Dale tonight and the game runs fine - a little chopy but I will make due. My headphones are plugged in and my sound is turned up, but Icewind Dale runs with no sound. Can someone help me?

I had this issue with all of the Infinity Engine Enhanced Editions and managed to fix it by downloading the file here:

Run the download with admin priveleges, install it, and you should be good from there. It's caused (in my case anyways) by a missing DLL called OpenAL32.dll, and running that install usually fixes it. if it doesn't, you may need to copy the DLL into the same folder as the game's exe file.

Is it really no background music and no sound effect?
I recall IWD 1 and 2 don't play much background music, usually play once when enter into a new area. But I never miss a sound effect.
