I found a fix that works for me. It looks like the current version of Windows and the newest Nvidia drivers have issues with auto HDR resulting in BSOD under certain conditions. I installed an older Nvidia driver + turned off auto HDR and now everything works again.

Hi everyone,
for the last couple of months I played Icewind Dale on GOG, the original version, not EE. It worked flawlessly until I hit the end of the original campains' last section, the return to Easthaven. It started chrashing/freezing frequently. I could solve the problem via disabling opengl in the config. Now (two days ago it still worked) the game refuses completely to start and my pc freezes instantly and shows a black screen before the first intro movie starts.
Has anyone a similar problem or a solution? I have beaten almost the whole game and was currently doing the trials of the luremaster. It would be so frustrating to not being able to finish the game.

Things I already tried:
- Activate Opengl again
- Remove DDraw DLL
- Reinstall
- Run as Admin/Compatability mode/disable fullscreen optimisation
- Switch to emulation DDraw instead of using Wine
- Increase chache size

The same thing has been happening to me but for the second game. It will consistently freeze when I talk to Oswald. GOG support had me install DirectX 2010, but that didn't work. Maybe it could work for you.
