So I've wanted to play Icewind Dale 2 with my friends for a long time now, but unfortunately we just can't stop having trouble. I picked up copies for myself and another friend just to test things out, but the closest we ever got to actually playing it together was through using the evolve service (it's kind of like the gog galaxy thing, though more specifically towards facilitating multiplayer connections using virtual IPs or somesuch) where we could actually see each other's hosted game when attempting to join but using the IPs provided by evolve did nothing. Attempting to join using only Icewind Dale 2 (both copies bought from gog) shows nothing when attempting to join and typing in our respective IP addresses only results in it timing out for the other regardless of who hosts.

We've tried some fixes through searching the internet in the past, but nothing worked. We both tried out the new gog galaxy thing, hoping that it might do something, but it still doesn't work.

Can anyone help figure out the what, the why, and the how of us getting multiplayer working here?

I am not speaking by personal experience, but I think you should one of these guides. They suggest to use either or [url=https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/]Hamachi.

Be sure to check the ports of the host's router: your problems could be due to them.
The problem is that we've used both Hamachi and GameRanger on separate occasions and with all of the parties involved attempting to host and STILL cannot connect.
