Hello, everyone.
Please, before you dismiss my request, spend a second and read through it. I'm after like five hours of searching all around the web so there's a high probability I've tried the most common solutions.
Now, the problem described here applies solely to IWD - BG1&2 and IWD2 work perfectly fine on the very same machine and same settings.
I've installed IWD on my netbook (ASUS 1225b - C60 APU with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit). Configured the game accordingly: 32 bit graphic, fullscreen, 3D acceleration, 1024x768. No mods so far. As soon as I create my character and enter the game, the stuttering starts, making the game almost unplayable - the cursor lags and so does the whole screen.
Now, here are the solutions I've tried and that failed:
1) disabling 3d acceleration at the configuration screen - the only semi-success I achieved, as with 3d disabled, the lag is gone, but whenever I scroll the screen, the fog of war (I mean, that semi-transparent fog over the areas I've already explored) keeps flickering, which is terribly annoying
2) with 3d disabled, I tried playing with 16 bit graphic/windowed mode/blts - nothing helped, results same as 1)
Now, the solutions I tried with 3d acceleration enabled:
3) iedrawfix- no effect
4) disabling hardware acceleration with Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010) - no effect
5) Microsoft Application Compatibility Tool and forcing DirectDraw emulation - no effect
6) D3Dwindower (solution from Spellhold Studios) - doesn't work for me, hitting "run the program" button doesn't work
7) playing in windowed mode - no change
8) installing DirectX9 over DirectX11 - no change
9) running the game in compatibility mode/as an administrator/with all three options from Compatibility tab disabled - no change (done this with 3d disabled as well) - no change
Perhaps there was something else I tried, but now I just don't remember. I'm really getting desperate, and would appreciate anyone's help - either with getting rid of the lag, or the fog's flickering when 3d is disabled.
Cheers!
EDIT: Oh God, what a fail... I was trying to figure out why am I unable to post the thread... and as an attempt, I tried shortening its title, hoping I'd expand it later, if the thread does get published (it was a hyperlink after all). My apologies, would anyone with such privileges change the topic's title to "Icewind Dale *1* - either keeps lagging or burns my eyes out with the flickering fog of war"? :S
EDIT 2: Interesting tidbit - as soon as I enabled hardware acceleration in SDK, Icewind Dale 2 started lagging. I disabled it again, and it stopped. Icewind Dale 1 remains an unsolved mystery, though. :(
