I'm soon going to buy Icewind Dale 2 from a friends recommendation. How exactly do you go about playing ID2 with a friend? Is it simple host and join through something GOG has implemented or do you have to mess around with hamachi/tunngle etc?

Avenues of multiplayer like gamespy are gone. The only way I think you can play with your friends is through TCP/IP, where you'll need your friend's IP address, and/or vice versa.

Keep in mind that giving your IP address to other people is pretty dicey.
