You know when dialogue appears above an NPC when he says something out of conversation? Whenever this happens, a big black box shows up behind the text, rather than just the text itself. This also occurs with loot on the ground - the little icon (gold/jewels) is surrounded by a black box.

Any way to get this to go away?

er, bump?
I too am using a Geforce card.
Might be a problem with sprites and/or translucency?
If I recall correctly, there are some toggle-able options in the graphics section. Have you tried fiddling around with those yet?
I had the same problem and went into the icewind dale 2 config program included, and raised the graphics tab up to the highest level. This solves the problem for me when I play in full screen mode, but curiously not in windowed mode.
I just spent a couple hours getting this to work. For me, the problem was that I was playing with 32 bit color. If I turned it to 16 bit color and turned on all the software running features (such as software BLT etc.) it got rid of the black backgrounds.

You can do this in the config.exe under the graphics tab. Just select 16bit in the 2D color depth and then check the 3 boxes for 2D 16-bit Color BLT Modes. Hope that helps.

Worked for me, too. Thanks
