Another issue that I am noticing - my game is running at high speed, as if everyone in the game has on Boots of Speed. I get attacked and I barely have time to issue commands because rounds speed by so fast. Any suggestions on how to slow it down?

Run the 'config.exe' inside your installation folder, and go to the 'Game' tab. It is very important that the AI Framerate is set at 30 updates per second, otherwise all sorts of problems will occur, especially in animations (which you seem to be experiencing), and timed quests.
