Hi, it seems that IceWind Dale when I first played it for an hour ran fine now within 10 sec of gameplay it runs very choppy. My specs are 2 gigs of ram and a core 2 duo running on Windows XP and a 8400M GS. I have Unfinished bus, Item upgrade mod, G3 tweaks. Switching open gl on and off does nothing. even putting the game down to lowest settings seems to do nothing.

I also only have one cpu running this on the affinity.

I know BG2 had problems with the endless bag of holding, the game would get laggy. The same thing is happening here performence wise. I'm at the shadow valley in one of the crypts.

Also I have heard that if a labtop gets hot then the CPU will power down and slow the game up. My Labtop is running pretty hot but other games dont do this.

I've also heard that the 8 series graphics card is bad for these type of games (IE games).

Any help would be appreciated.

sear: Have you tried changing the HWAcceleration property in icewind2.ini to 1? Just checking, not sure if that's the same as OpenGL acceleration.
Sorry I should of made my self clearer I'm playing Icewind Dale 1 not 2. IceWind dale has the same thing and its been confirmed that when checking OpenGl in the ini it also changes from 0 to 1 and vice versa. No need to open up that file to change that setting when it works in the configuration setup

(Update) I uninstalled my nvida drivers and installed omega drivers. Though i have not set them up yet so I don't think I have any display drivers installed. The funny thing is now is that the game runs fine almost. Its much more playable then it was before though. Any thoughts on this

Update Apparently the omega drivers are not supporting laptops right now so no wonder they don't install. So far I'm running the game with no graphics drivers and it works good. However using windows xp, scrolling through web pages lags and sometimes clicking on icons makes it lag.

Hoping this is not a solution.

sear: I don't have any of those problems in the first Icewind Dale with hardware acceleration enabled. If you have Windows XP installed, you can disable/turn down DirectDraw acceleration in DxDiag to see if that helps things.
Yea thanks will give it a try and let you know what happend
I had some problems with the game running really choppy at times when I first started playing it. Seemed like it was lagging every now and then when I issued movement orders.

Haven't had the problem since I made sure I ran the program as administrator, and checked the use openGL 3D acceleration option in the config program.
