I am resurrecting this thread, yeah, but you two had just the answer to the problem I was having with IWD.

Thank you Scalpel and especially sear for the hardware acceleration note.

Thank you,

Scalpel

And especially Sear,
I know this is old but by god man you have helped me a great deal,
I was becoming nauseous from the flickering and the game was noticeably slow.

Thanks again...
Resurrecting this thread again because i got the flickering Fog of War problem and can't create a new thread.

Well, i got the Fog problem but the part with enabling 3D Acceleration in the .ini does not work for me, since it turns itsself off again, as soon as i start IWD2.

I play on Windows 7 64 bit, no Widescreen Mod, Nvidia GTS 250 and that flickering drives me crazy.

Google did not exactly help me and i played around with the native config options (inclusive 16 Bit Mode) but this did not help either. Also i tried the stuff in the sticky here, did not work.

So, anyone got any other idea? :D

Thanks in advance.

Where do you have the game installed? If it's in Programs or Programs(x86), install it elsewhere. Something like C:\Games. Win7 has a crapton of protections in the Programs folders and sometimes when you try to make changes, it doesn't accept them. Your post makes it sound like this could be the issue.
Nope, it is D:\GOG Games\Icewind Dale II for me but thank you for that idea.

Follow step 6: http://zeckul.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/icewind-dale-2-ultimate-installation-guide/
Sorry for resurrecting this thread but i don't know what else to do.
I've tried all these solutions without result:
1)https://www.gog.com/forum/icewind_dale_series/iwd2_installation_guide_fix_lag_fog_of_war_problems_under_windows
_7vista/?search=fog%20war
2) The opposite of this solution https://www.gog.com/forum/icewind_dale_series/iwd2_runs_poorly_on_w7/page1: i've tried forcing hardware acceleration
3) I've turned off antialias and triple buffering through nvidia 3d panel
4) I've manually changed 3d acceleration value in configuration file (icewind2.ini)
5) i've enabled software options (also 16 bit) in graphic menu

My specs: win7 64 bit, gtx 460, 4gb RAM. CPU Q9300

Hope someone can help me!
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread; similar to the post from a year ago, I can't play IWD2 without the fog of war flickering (which is rather annoying after a few minutes). I've literally tried everything I've found on the internet (disabling anti-aliasing, running the programme in compatibility mode, playing around with the ingame options etc.), so am I missing an obvious fix for this (under Win 10)? With the WineD3D ddraw fix installed the game runs fine (apart from the fog of war thing), if I install ForceDirectDraw, the game becomes extremely laggy with even more visual blobs. Any suggestions?

Have you tried uninstalling the ddraw fix and using DxWnd to run the game? I've detailed the steps in this thread> https://www.gog.com/forum/icewind_dale_series/icewind_dale_ii_mouse_issues

Mind you, do not forget to uninstall the ddraw fix.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't make it run in combination with the widescreen mod (IWD2 doesn't even start) and I couldn't find a way to set the widescreen resolution within DxWnd.

The issue only occurs if I use the widescreen mod and my native resolution (1366x768). The only acceptable compromise between resolution and the fog of war not flickering seems to be to play in 1024x768 and maintain the aspect ratio...

If you're playing with the widescreen mod, you also have to select "Native Screen Resolution" under the Video tab.

Nevertheless I actually tried it with DxWnd on my own config, and the flickering was still present. I must have misremembered it, apart from the fow glitch, playing IWD2 on DxWnd was always very smooth.
Sorry for the bump,

I was having the fog of war flickering problem too. Used the wide screen mod and at my native resolution (1600x900) and it flickered. None of the fixes working. So I re-installed the widescreen mod to a lower resolution (1280x800 but only full screen, windowed still has flickering problems) and worked. It's not ideal but hey at least I can play.
