hola,

I cannot get IWD to work, I get to the point where I can create party members and I (obviously) use the import function as I cannot be arsed to build a balanced party from scratch, it's too much work and I haven't a clue what I'm on about.

However, when I try to import a premade character, IWD crashes to the desktop with a C++ runtime error. I have a win7 rig with a radeon 6900 card.

any help would be appreciated!
Where did you get your characters from? Is it possible that they have been corrupted or that they may be in the format for the BG games? Could they have been made with a modded game and are trying to load from that mod?
I own/ tested on 3 different systems (2 xp dt & win7 lt)... I've tryed redownloading but Same problem.

Did you use Dalekeeper to alter your characters before importing?

I'm going to assume you are asking me so the answer is no. At this stage, I think the source file from GOG must be corrupt because the problem is consistent and on both win7 & xp.

p.s. my GOG BG1 & 2 run fine.

Just had the same problem and solved it by deactivating my antivirus (Avast). It's also possible to configure the antivirus to not check files in specific directories. I made it ignore the whole IWD path and I can Import characters and edit their Biographies without crashing now. Hope this helps!

I use Avast anti-virus & temp disabling it during character creation has resolved the issue… Thanks leokhorn!

Update;
It’s the behavioural shield that was causing the problem.

Nice catch! I had somehow disabled every agent during my testing, believing filtering IDMain.exe for the File Agent did the trick. I just tried your method and this time it works for sure! Thanks back at you ;)
Tried the Avast Fix, even disabling it completely. Didn't work. I cannot import any characters. Getting kinda pissed of right now

The Behavior Shield does not show up any "blocked events" either, so it seems avast isn't doing anything. I disabled all shields, still getting crash to desktop on character import.

Only thing I ever "modified" is forcing dirextdraw to fix the laggy fps.

UPDATE: If you're still using Avast 5.x like me, update it to 6.x or 7.x THEN do the behavior shield fix described here. For some reason it now works for me, after updating avast Ö_ö curious.
