Hi, I need clarification on the discrepancies in character generation between the manual and the game IWD EE.
In the manual, for example, the racial bonuses for the Human race are: +15% Pick Pockets, +10% Open Locks, +5% Find Traps, +5% Move
Silently, +10% Hide in Shadows.
In the race description in the game when I generate a character, there are no bonuses.
Or, for the halfling race, these bonuses are according to the manual:
- +20% Pick Pockets, +15% Open Locks, +10% Find Traps, +20% Move Silently, +20% Hide in Shadows.
In the in-game character description window:
+5 Pick Pockets, +5 Open Locks, +5 Find Traps, +15 Move Silently, +10 Hide in Shadows.
If these are updated values, where would I find an updated list of values to generate a character so I can generate it correctly? I'm not an expert in these things.
Thank you for reply.

By definition Humans have no racial modifiers so it is correct that all of those listed are zero in character creation.

I can't speak to the EE version of IWD but can speak to the original one that is only available to customers that bought it prior to the Beamdog replacement. IWD is pretty faithful to the original AD&D ruleset so if you can find a pdf copy of that online you can use it for reference. The values that you quoted are what is in the original IWD and mostly align with the AD&D rules. The exception being that IWD combined the modifier for Move Silently and Hide in Shadows as there are separate (and sometimes different modifiers) in AD&D.

Here are the racial thieving modifiers for reference:

Dwarf: PP - / OL+10 / DT +15 / MS - / HiS -
Elf: PP +5 / OL -5 / DT - / MS +10 / HiS +10
Gnome: PP - / OL+5 / DT +10 / MS +5 / HiS +5
Half Elf: PP +10 / OL - / DT - / MS +5 / HiS +5
Halfing: PP +5 / OL+5 / DT +5 / MS +15 / HiS +15

P.S. Just read a post that detailed that the original IWD is available to IWD EE owners. Recommendation would be to download the original manual.
