Hi guys,
I purchased the game today via gog.com and installed it but I can't get it to launch to save my life. I've been digging through all the threads concerning that topic and have found nothing that would help me.

I have

- installed it outside the program files folder
- set the compatibility mode to XP
- checked "disable visual themes" under compatibilty
- checked "disable desktop compostion" under compatibility
- checked "disable scaling on high DPI settings"
- ran it as an administrator
- launched in windowed mode

What else is there? It just won't run. :( When I try to launch it, I get a (somewhat big) black screen in the bottom right corner of my monitor that won't budge unless I close it with the task manager and that's about it.

edit: referring to IWD2, sorry.

You do not need to do any of those things (except install outside of Program Files) that you have listed in Windows 7, provided you already have administrative rights. Reverse them; get rid of them, and simply run the config.exe from inside your IWD2 installation folder.

In the 'General' tab make sure that the 3 right hand sliders are at the top.

In the 'Game' tab enter 768MB cache; AI Frame Rate options at 30; Path Search Nodes at 256000; all of the right-hand checkboxes checked EXCEPT for Windows NT Smoothsound and (at your preference) Group Dark Vision.

In the 'Graphics' tab select your resolution, 32 bit, Fullscreen, Tile Pre-Cache 100 and any other options at your preference.

The above will ensure that your icewind2.ini is populated properly. You should also check the alias in your icewind2.ini file, to make sure it points to the installation folder. Assuming you have IWD2 installed to \GOG.com\, your alias section should look like this:

[Alias]
HD0:=C:\GOG.com\Icewind Dale II\
CD1:=C:\GOG.com\Icewind Dale II\DATA\
CD2:=C:\GOG.com\Icewind Dale II\CD2\
Thank you for your help! Unfortunately, it's still not working. Nothing's changed.

Do you have an antivirus running? Try disabling it temporarily, while playing games. Some antivirus software plays havoc with games.

Try taking the dddraw.dll file out of the installation folder.
