I keep getting an access denied message when I try to enter "Cheats=1" into icewind file.

I'm using win 7. Any help?

Check file permissions. Did you install as admin and are you now trying to access with a different account?
If you installed the game to the default program files folder and are opening a file with notepad, To edit it you will need to open notepad as an administrator first then use that to open the file and save.
Running Win7 x64 Pro myself and ran into this.

Taking ownership of the install folder also works (and allows any future editing and/or modding).

Right-click the "Icewind Dale Complete" folder, choose "Properties", choose the "Security" tab, click "Advanced", choose the "Owner" tab, click "Edit", highlight your user account in the "Change owner to" box, then click "Apply".

Follow the remaining prompts and you're all set.
