Hey all. Whenever I start the game I get audio for the opening video and the "which of you.." line, but I don't have any video on the screen. I don't even have a mouse pointer and I have to alt+tab to close the game.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro laptop and I've tried different compatibility settings and running as an admin but nothing is working. Uninstalling and re-installing doesn't fix the problem either.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Update: I went to the Installation folder and then started "Launch Graphic Mode Setup". There I changed the Graphic Mode to Direct3D. Video now works without a problem.


I have the same problem. When I start the game I see a black screen with a grey rectangle in it.
But I found a ( far from perfect) solution for me: Press Alt-Enter to exit the Fullscreen-Mode. If you then click the symbol for the game in the taskbar it appears in windowed-mode and I can play it without problems. If I switch back to Fullscreen-Mode I just get the sound and a screen, but I can't move my mouse and therefore can't do anything.

tl,dr: Try the windowed-mode by pressing Alt+Enter Keys.

I had the same problem, did the same thing and it didn't work - but then I changed the Graphics mode to OpenGL and everything works fine now. Dosbox is a mysterious beast.

The settings within the Graphic Mode Setup are a bit temperamental. I had to go through loads of settings using trial and error before I got to a configuration that worked for me

This may sound silly, but how do I change the settings? I can't find any way to, and don't know computers.
