It says to 'Dont throw these away outdoors'... but how do I throw things away? its not like I can drag from inventory and just drop them not on the girl, the item just returns to my inventory?

When you drag an item from your inventory towards the right-hand side of the screen a rectangular area appears, and if you drop things in that rectangle they are thrown away.
