(Might be a GOG Galaxy glitch!)

My internet recently went out. I launched House Flipper to kill some time, all the options in the menu didn't work. Nothing I tried would make the game work. Once then internet came back on, I could play again. So I unplugged the internet cable (no wi-fi on my board) and the game wouldn't work again, loads into the main menu but nothing works when you click on it.

This is clearly a form of DRM running at launch. Unacceptable.

Update: Could just be a GOG Galaxy glitch? When launching directly from the game folder the game plays no problem.

hey can't blame me for getting pissed thinking a game I bought was drm'd right? :p

Many people think that your issue is because a DRM protection. When you launch a game through GOG Galaxy, this launcher tries to connect to the internet to access to the savegames or settings files stored in the cloud. This is useful if you change a lot between computers or for safety purposes, but if you losses internet connection, you cannot play. I never use GOG Galaxy for that.

Anyway, all GOG games can be played without the use of GOG Galaxy. This is a very important advantage over Steam. Of course, if the game requires some kind of internet connection (i.e. multiplayer games), you need GOG Galaxy to access to the servers of the game. But, also, this is not a DRM protection, it is only a way to access to some features offered by GOG servers.

It is possible to do online play that doesn't require DRM. It's been done. Companies just want to monetize their online play or control it, this is why there is DRM. This is why I've abandoned the hope of playing any online games and only play SP and download the files. GOG and almost all developers have abandoned DRM free online play, so I will as well. It's single player for me from now on. Thankfully some companies like Larian Studios still make LAN multiplayer, so there are a few games I can still play with someone locally. But I'm not paying monthly for a service, I'm not playing a "free" game that constantly tries to pry money from my wallet (don't get me started on the ones that aren't free and still do that), and throughout the years playing competitive or any online games has been a waste of time socially as well.

Regardless of all that, House Flipper is awesome and I just won't use GOG Galaxy ever again. My library is DRM free only and I don't need a library manager. If GOG ever takes away offline installer downloads from their website I'll never use their site again.

If you have never played House Flipper without GOG Galaxy, I recommend you to make a backup of the savegame files from time to time to avoid surprises after an update.
