I know there has been a bit of similar topics posted but no one has posted a working solution. I am on windows 8 and the game just keeps on crashing. I have restarted and reinstalled. It is frustrating because it happens when I am about to clear the level so it doesn't even save haha.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hotline Miami Plus seems to be doing a great work with improving the game and squashing the bugs:

The only other fix I haven't tried is oldskool82 comment on another thread: What are your thoughts on this fix? The steam page you directed me too looks really interesting. Maybe the minor bug fixes the user put in that patch will work. I will post results.

It's worth trying too, but maybe test Hotline Miami Plus first.

Thanks for reposting this fix here. I just gave it a whirl and it works like a charm for me. (also using Windows 8, 64 bit)
I had already applied the universal patch and changed "SURFACES" to off in the advanced options menu, which did already solve some crashes, but the game still kept crashing in Chapter 13. Applying this fix with the hex editor seems to have solved those problems as well. As the fix describes, the game now does get a bit choppy whenever several sounds are played at once .. but it doesn't bother me much; it's still perfectly playable.
