Hi,
I've been desperately trying to figure out how to make this game run smoothly on a modern computer but i can't seem to find a perfect solution. In case someone wondered, i run on Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 4070 so probably the hardware is missing some optimisations for such an old game.
But oh boy, have i tried to find every possible solution out there. Here's the list of things i've tried:
- running on/off compatibility modes (no change)
- switching second monitor off (no change)
- running the game in window (no change)
- trying the steam version of the game (no change)
- turning every possible option on/off in the game menus and setup (no significant change apart from a difference of few FPS)
- trying to run the game on a VM with winXP installed (ran into an error when trying to launch setup.exe... gave up)
- using multiple different DDraw wrappers (Nglide/DDrawCompat/others...) (...no change + more errors)
- using dgVoodoo2 (the game just crashes after the mission cutscene on the map loading part)
I'm starting to... yet again... slowly give up on ever having the same old experience again (without the laggy, low FPS mess) but maybe someone has tried something i haven't.
To be clear, i'm not talking about the text bug. That was solved relatively easily. The game just runs badly if anything starts exploading on the screen. The FPS just dunks to 10-15 and... oh god... the UI lag makes it just uncontrollable.
Help, cheers xd
