Elsewhere, someone posted that several gamers had this problem after the patch was applied.

I read on steam that one user solved their startup issue by setting the frequency lower, from the original setting of 384hz.

So if you meet the min reqs, then you might want to give that a try if you have something higher set like 192hz or 384hz.

While not immediately clear, I think what you meant related to Windows sound settings. For anyone wondering, I was having issues launching the game and never thought changing the audio format would fix it, but it appears it does. So anyone running higher-end audio equipment (such as dedicated DACs) go have a look at your audio format.

To check it, open up the Sounds control panel by right-clicking the speaker icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen. Then go the Playback tab and right-click on your output device (headphones or speakers) and click properties. Move over to the Advanced tab and check the current "Default Format". Mine was set to 32-bit, 384000 Hz so I dropped it down to 32-bit, 192000 Hz and somehow, someway, this fixed my problem.

Changing the setting back its original value causes the game to not launch anymore.

Thank you for your help qwixter!

Sorry for not being more specific. I was vague. I've just had to deal with windows sound settings enough that it never occurred to me.

192 is still very high so i doubt you will hear a difference.
