I can't be the only one annoyed by the name change. Luckily it's very easy to fix.
Go to the directory where Emergence is installed, find the folders called feman and credits, then delete or rename them. These folders contain images for the title screen and credits which overwrite the originals. Without them the game will use the original files from its archive.
That's all you need to do! Elsewhere the game still refers to itself as Cataclysm, with one small exception: the version name in the corner of the main menu. I believe changing this would require modifying the executable. I'm not fussed about it personally but for the sake of being thorough I tried switching cataclysm.exe with the one from my CD version and it wouldn't run at all.
For Galaxy 2.0 users:
Right-click on Homeworld: Emergence in your library and select Edit... to change its name. Attached to this post are an alternative cover with the original name and an icon without a name (since it's too small to read anyway) based on the original box art.
