ZMacZ: oh plz..I haven't seen a game I couldn't run on my system as of yet, except for the ones with newer OS req's..
So..if they'd be nice ppl at ABS..CBS..PMS..whatever PBS..they'd offer the old version of Cataclysm (compiled as-is)
(without support) and let the gamer community stab at it when it comes to getting it to work..
Absolutely agree, I can verify it does indeed still run, you can even play with the registry settings if you want a higher resolution (at the cost of a shrunken UI, but hey). Dedicated communities have done more with less, and Cataclysm is one of those cult games. People just need more available access to the game. CDs are a little uncommon. So why not let the public have a crack at it. A "sloppy" digital release might exactly be what is called for. I'm sure it would still sell well.

Shukaku: Homeworld: Cataclysm is not old enough where DOSBOX is needed. In fact, I have a CD copy of Cataclysm (from the Future War Collection) and when patched with the only patch that exists, it worked just fine in Windows 7 without problems.

Like I've already said: they need the source code to release any classic or remastered version. They can't just copy the contents of a CD and release that, since it's not going to work.
Cant they use a virtual machine...wine linux to make it run

The day hath finally come.
Given that it appeared with very little fanfare I half suspect that the source code wasn't as lost as folk were told but it was more a case of blizzard being dicks about the word cataclysm depsite it being used by the homeworld game well before they adopted it.

No, no, it was lost, that's true.

Fortunately, Benjamin Gates and his fearless ragtag group of treasure hunters managed to find a copy of it on the back of The Declaration of Independence.
